Re:Gas Gage 2 Years ago
We all have different procedures, that is not the questions! I am going to assume that yours has started acting like mine. Will go to empty after fillup even if it was at half before, is that right? And then after riding aways comes back to the proper reading? More than likely it is the sending unit... I have a new one in the box, waiting for a time when I have to remove the tank, and then I will replace it... Good luck

Yeah, mine does that, I've got an 01' with about 5700 miles on it, when I fill up it stays on E for a while and slowly starts to go over to the F mark while riding.

our gauge is lame. ignore it. use the odometer to keep track of miles between fill ups. Oh, open cap and look in. works pretty well.

Well in my bikes case (06 silverado bought with 4,700 miles in 09) the trip meter is defective/brokenn/lame too, when it hit 4,700 miles it crapped the bed i could not use the trip meter if my fuel guage ever went bad.

I checked for best price on new guage pod with which was $705+ from yami,OOUUCHH!!!!!

So i recently scamed a complete guage pod off an 06 silverado on ebay shwoing 8k miles on it that works perfect (tested it on my bike) for $150 . Also got a tested good volt reg'rectifier and coi;s/wires of same o6 silverado for another $30 which i got mostly for rectifier which from yami is approx $100 or so . I know some yami coils can arc to fuel tank and or frame needing to be taped up with electrical tape but what the heck, price was right $30 for rectifier & both coils & wires./LOL!!!!!

My bike now has 6,200 miles on it so when it hit 8k miles i am going to install the other guage pod so i can have a working trip meter which i miss having for fuel mile checks, mileage inbwteen place i am going, etc.

Scott

Hey scottw, I have two speedo clusters for the R*. One has 3,141 mi. on it, and the other has 0 mi.! If I only would have known you needed one. So, for those of you that need a gauge cluster for your 05' and up... I tested them on my bike and everything works on 'em.

I have an 05 and it does mich the same as the others here. When I fill up
it will stay on thelast mark before I took on gas. But it goes to full after a little while.

Check the connector that comes out from under the tank at the rear of the tank. That is for your fuel gauge. Mine came loose one time and the gauge stopped working. Yours may have corrosion in it or it may not be plugged in all the way. Don't just call the sending unit bad until you have checked the easy stuff first, and if that fails to reveal the problem, checking the sending unit. Don't throw parts at it in hopes it will fix the problem. Troubleshoot and know what the problem is. Everything you need to do this is right here in the clinic. The search box is your friend.

Re:Gas Gage 2 Years ago
I just replaced my sending unit, and filled it back up with gas about an hour ago. Seems to be working fine now.. only time will tell... the old one was pretty loose where it makes connection.... Not a big deal to install...

I'd go with cleaning the connectors first. I had the same problem after taking the tank off. Pulled the dash, cleaned the connections, no problems since.

Re:Gas Gage 2 Years ago
I had already tried that with mine to no avail! Not to say that is not what is wrong with his! I always try all options before buying parts! I hope cleaning the connections cures it. The sending unit was around $100 including shipping. And my wife says I am so tight I squeak when I walk.
