I think the 1600 and 1700 are a little different when removing the AIS. The 1700 appears to be alittle more simple.

That's correct. You can go back if you have the 1700 but it's much more difficult with the 1600.

For the 1600 you would have to have intact elbows or somehow buy them from Yamaha.

I've got a 2003 1600. I'm still on the fence about doing it later in the year.

I say some kind of emission checks are coming, not sure if it will start with a certain year bike but its coming. I still have the AIS. I don't seem to have the chirping or back firing some have so I am leaving it on for the time being...

Yeah . its best to leave it on the emission until the truth fact with 2008 year comes out and see what the enforesment going to happen . If they are going after 2008 models and newer.
Then ill take all the craps of AIS out. But, Be patient is all takes.
Keep in post what gonna happen wth emission issuse in 2008 ...
