First start after sitting 1 Year, 11 Months ago
Anyone have any pointers to what should be done to a bike that has been sitting for over 3 1/2 years before starting it. Obviously a carb rebuild is going to be needed. I pulled the plugs already and sprayed a little PB Blaster just in case anything was sticking. Any other thoughts?

I would turn it over by hand. And put some oil down in the cylinders to lube them up a little and let it sit a while first. Change the oil.

Re:First start after sitting 1 Year, 11 Months ago
Curiosity got the better of me so I went out and pulled the carb. I was amazed to see the factory screws still in the bowl...

It has been mentioned here before, but this is the first time I tried it. The screwdriver that comes in the tool kit fits these screws PERFECTLY. I also found out that a 17MM wrench fits the end of it and gives you the necessary torque to get them out...

It didn't look as bad as I thought although the needle was stuck in there pretty good. It has already been jetted, I have no idea why someone would reuse those screws on the bowl though! It has a 187.5 main which is probably about right with what has been done. I am going to clean it up and see how it runs with that. Surprisingly both the main and pilot were fairly clean on the inside. The main had a nice coating on top. I had to scrape it off to see what size it was. The accelerator pump was stuck too.

After the other suggestions, bump the starter through a couple rounds to make sure everything is free (without the plugs), then give it a few good spins to help prime the oil system. Drain and flush the tank with chemtool. Add seafoam with fresh gas. Check all other fluids. Fire it up and do a burnout to soften the old tires. Just kidding.

He's suggesting adding it to the tank so may be one of their rust remover products.

CHEMTOOL is actually a brand that makes a fuel additive. It's Berryman B-12 chemtool, fuel additive's , injector cleaner and carb cleaner.

pb blaster should have freed up anything sticking in the cylinders. that stuff is serious.after that i would spin it over without the plugs to get some oil thru the system and of course change out the oil soon after..
