Tires 7 Years, 10 Months ago
I have posted this in a couple of places, looking for a good cross section of feedback.

I have been a Metzler man from WAY back in my racing days. Love them, grippy, wear well, .. great tire. On my RoadStar, the heavy behemoth from hell I am not so sure my ME880 is the best choice on the back at least. This bike is eating rear tires faster tham my Venture Royale did (of course, this bike is a hell of a lot heavier and has a lot more torque). I don't really romp on it and unfortunately my commute is only sort of twisty, but not tremendously (would prefer REALLY twisty). I have 5K on the back and it is starting to square off enough that handling is being affected.

Run 40 to 42 pounds in the rear, as you can see from my sig picture, the bike is "dressed" well. I am about 275 pounds. My son rides with me a lot on the weekends and is about 100 pounds.

So the question is for those that have actually tried different tires, which ones gave you the best wear? Anyone that has run a few different ones, what kind of milage from each? I love the handling of the ME880 - before it started squaring off, but don't think the way I ride this bike that I need something so soft that it only lasts 6 or 7 thousand miles before needing to be replaced. Plenty of tread, but squarish. I am a white wall fan as well, so keep that in mind if you can, but any input would be appreciated.

I have the same experience with the 880. Love the tire but have had it on for about the same miles and the tread is almost gone in the middle.

On the other hand, my tire is not that square. I have had a slow leak in the tire since day one so I've had a problem keeping 40 psi in it. The pressure gets as low as 20 before I fill it. I think that may have resulted in the tire being less 'square' than would be anticipated based on the amount of tread that is left.

As you know "best wear" usually means 'poor grip'. Unless I can find a tire that's as sticky but wears longer I'll probably stay with the 880 as I feel 'safe' with them.
