You can use compressed air to force the grip off the bars.

You can shoot some WD40 between the grip and the bars (the WD40 softens the grip-glue).

In either case use a slim screwdriver to separate the grip from the bar, just don't be to enthusiastic with it; be gentle.

Hey Highway1700....I have been inquiring in some drag bars myself for some time now....I'm just curious how tall you are because I'd like to know how the comfort zone is for your reach and stuff. I am 5'10" so I don't want to be reaching too far if you know what I mean. Thanks man.

I want to change out my grips too, but I don't understand the compressed air part fully. Where do you shoot the air into? The cap-end of the grip?? Thanks in advance
Oh yeah my new grips say to use 3m 77 spray adhesive what do you guys think, is that a good glue to use in your opinion?

Post edited by: Dadstar, at: 2007/06/13 09:36

Dadstar,

I have replaced 2 sets recently. The first I tried just compressed air and had little success. Finally resorted to WD40 and a slim screw driver. Lube up the grip as much as you can then slowly insert the screw driver. Once in place spray more WD40 in the opening along the screw driver. Keep a towel over the tank to protect the surfaces. Wiggle the screw driver back and forth and work it around the grip. If it gets too tight shoot it with WD 40 again. It took about 30 seconds for the grip to come loose and slide off intact. The second time I did it for a friend it was even easier. When you go to reapply the grip clean it well with Alcohol to remove the oil residue to get good adhesion.

Just for completness ..... you shoot the compressed air between the grip and the bar to lift the grip off the bar.

Oh yeah my new grips say to use 3m 77 spray adhesive what do you guys think, is that a good glue to use in your opinion?

Not familar with that stuff. You can use grip glue (from dealer), hair spray , golf grip, etc. Don't use Krazy Glue.
