Choking out 1 Year, 9 Months ago
I've been all over this issue, when the rain starts the bike loses power have to choke the hell out of it but that only works for a few moments to get the hell out of traffic. I ventured this issue a while ago and chased the ghost and still have the issue. It started around the time I had the over flow rerouted to solve the carb puking, and I've checked the ais connections changed the little filter in the induction box, checked the connections from the carb to the jugs. Looked high and low at the electrical componets. Just don't get it!!!

For starters eliminate the AIS system completely! I have driven in an all out thunderstorm where I had to fgo slower than 10 MPH to see the road markings so as to stay on it; never missed a beat. I have had my bike falter a couple of times in rain where I belive the rain was getting to the coils. I SUSPECT THAT YOU MAY HAVE AN IGNITION PROBLEM not a carb problem.

I rode in a thunderstorm so bad I couldn't see one car length in front of me and the water was up to the floor boards and it still ran. Not good but it ran and I had a BAK on it. The first time I got caught in the rain it wasn't nearly as bad and it choked and coughed and carried on. Don't ask me why the differance except the filter was older on the bad one.

Ok,when it gets wet it runs poorly, thats normally a sign of ign issues like already stated.

Try this ,when its dark out get the bike somewhat warmed up and simply spray it down with more of a mist type spray with a garden hose esp in area of plugs/plug wires/under fuel tank to get coils wet/etc.

If it does act up when doing that look for arcing from coils to frame or bottom of fuel tank, from plug wires to frame or fuel tank, and even arcing from inside spark plug caps out down to the base of the sparkplugs and or arching to head.

Also look for arcing from the porcelin part of plugs to head/motor etc too.

I would not be surprised at all if you find an issue in 1 or more of those areas.

Pulling choke helping it run better like you stated you have to do when it's wet could be because if the ign is weaked when it gets wet if its arcing someplace its harder to ignite a lean fuel mixture then a slightly richer fuel mixture like when you give it a little choke . That to me kinda backs up the theory that your ign getting wet is likely the issue.

But i doubt it has anything to do with the carbs overflow hose being extended below the bike for safety sake. But you could simply move it back to its original stock position on the back side of the aircleaner housing to see if that corrects the problem if wetting down the bike & its ign system doesnt make it run poorly when you hit it with a garden hose.

Okay scottw I'll run that course again, Last year I had used a low pressure fan setting on my pressure washer working it to and fro from the sides and underneath up upwards and the damn thing never faltered with throttle locked quarter open.
