Changed Plugs, Broken Part, Quick Question>>> 4 Years, 11 Months ago
Well, I finally got the chance to change the plugs tonight, kind of a PITA for a non-mech type but I weathered the storm My baby is running, to be politically correct, like a non-consenting humanlike primate. I even ended up with no spare parts lying around which, for me is no mean feat

Okay, here's the problem, in removing the fuel pump cover to more easily access the fuel line, I broke the upper tab that holds the cover on (one of the lower grommets pulled out too but I got that back in). Questions:

A. How expensive is it going to be to get a new cover?
B. Does anyone have a spare they'd like to sell?
C. How the heck do I remove it correctly the next time (I unscrewed the screws at the bottom and tried gently pulling up and out on the top this time)?

Really an amazing difference in the way it runs now!

Regards, Ted

PS...the wife totalled her VStar on Monday...she walked away with a broken rib or two; the bike is a disaster Going tomorrow to remove the bags, grip fringe, etc and get the check!

I'm very sorry to hear of your wifes accident but glad she wasn't hurt worse.

It's the pulling "up and out" that busticated it I think. I pull and wiggle mine straight up until the tab is out of the slot.

Glad to hear she walked away with only a broken rib; could have been much worse. Broken ribs take a while to heal but I wish her a speedy recovery.

Best thing for the pump cover is to chuck it in the garbage and relocate the pump.

I've got a pump cover, I'll send it to ya for $20. They are a little tricky to get off, but this one is in new condition. I relocated my fuel pump and won't be needing this one.
If ya want it send me a PM and we'll work it out.

I broke mine too ..repaired it... but decided to get a nice sturdy metal one from NO PORK

I did not want to relocate my pump ...in fact the bigger cover looks a little like a small version of the right side filter cover...

sorry to here about the wifes misfortune...wishing her a speedy recovery...

Slowpoke--

Much appreciate your offer...I think I am going to go with the metal one...seems safer when the Tedgorilla works on the bike to have metal parts. Will let you now if I decide to just replace the OEM!

Thank you!
