Pumpless question 1 Year, 8 Months ago
Ive read so many different ways to go pumpless. Some guys swear by things that other people say aren't necessary.

I have a 99 with a stock carb.

I just ordered a Grizzly float valve.

So I guess I want to know if someone has gotten away with just changing the float valve and leaving everything else the same as pre-pumpless?

i just went pumpless and put in the grizzly 660 needle valve seat. the only other thing i did was vent the gas cap. i used the stock fuel filter in line to carb. have had no issues at all. it's been about a month.

to both of you.
Try it, if it works great.
If it doesn't just try the next step.
You will at least probably want to shorten the petcock's fill tube.

Glad yall found us...........

A lot depends on how you ride, but the grizzly will insure enough fuel and shortening the pickup tube will get your idiot light back in sync...I think removing the rollover valve probably should be done if you don't vent the cap...my2.......

What does removing the roll over valve entail?

If I really get on it and I going to run the carb dry?

Shortening the pickup tube is as simple as taking it out and cutting it right?

Follow the vent hose from the front of the tank back thru the bike, around the area of the swingarm pivot you will see a gizmo that looks a bit like a pcv valve you simply pull it off and replace with a piece of tubing that fits the hose..

With the grizzly, you won't run dry.

take the petcock out of the tank and cut a half inch off the tall pickup tube....

I just pulled the vent tube off the front of the tank a few years ago and never hooked it back up..

Flash, why do you need to trim down the petcock? Never could understand that.

Well, It really isn't a big deal to me, but many have found they need to go on reserve before the idiot light comes on, by cutting the tube down, it gets the light back in sync ....
edit: basicly it allows the tank to drain down a bit further before switching to reserve...really doesn't do anything to the light...

Why is this necessary? The float valve will only let so much fuel drain into the bowl. It should have plenty of time to equalize IMOP. Is there something I'm missing?
