Broken belt 4 Years, 11 Months ago
The other day, I was taking off from a stop and not even doing 20mph in 1st, my 128 tooth gates belt broke. It broke straight across in one of the teeth. It was a clean break. about a week or so ago, I had a slight squeak from the belt but went away thinking that it was just a little bit of dirt causing the squeak. Then 2 days ago, the belt broke. Any ideas anybody? I know that I will call the company that sold me the belt on Monday and raise alittle hell. Kinda pisses me off cuz I have never heard of a belt breaking like that and not to mention that it could have broke while doing 70mph and lock up my rear tire. Has anybody heard of these gates belts doing anything like that?

don't know how many miles you have on that belt, but a broken belt just doesn't happen that often in my experience. however, I'm not sure how a broken belt could cause your rear tire to lock up. A couple of friends with HD's say the belt usually ends up on the road behind you and you stop as usual.

Glad you weren't hurt.

I"m just saying that anything could happen....I"m looking at what could happen. Maybe the belt "could" get jammed up in between the tire and swingarm or something. I'm sure that the chances of that happening are slim to nothing, but there is always that possibility. I only had about 500 miles or so on the belt.
