Question 4 Years, 11 Months ago
This may be a really dumb question but, when you install the K&N filter and cover does this cause concern for riding in the rain?

Not a dumb question, I asked it myself once. I'm running the BAK set-up with no rain issues. BB

If the element is open all around you're OK for riding but if it's parked in the rain it's best to cover it as it's harder to start when the filter is soaked.

You can use a plastic shower cap to cover a BAK.

It depends on how hard it is raining that is why BAK includes a rain coat for the air cleaner in it's BAK kit. I got caught in a bad one one time and it causes the engine to really spit and sputter when the filer gets real wet. That is why I carry the rain coat in my saddle bags.

If your putting one in the stock box you shouldn't
have any problems unless your riding in the river.
I've had one in my stock billet cover for a year and
have gotten caught in some heavy rain and no problem.

Speaking of K&N...how often should the filter be oiled?

A little dirty works better than clean but too dirty and you'll see you mileage being affected.
