Exhaust Question 4 Years, 11 Months ago
I have come across a sweet deal on a D&D exhaust system for Yamaha Roadstar. The only problem is that it is for a 99 - 01 Roadstar. I have 2007. I believe the 2001 was 1600cc and I know mine is 1700cc. Does anyone know if this exhaust will fit?

While I am at it. I am looking for recommendations for an exhaust. I am looking for increased performance, beefer, louder sound (but I don't want to deafen my passenger), and value (for the money I spend).

And what are opinions on slip-ons verses full systems. There are so many different make and models....

FL- I've had both slipons and full systems on 2 different Yamaha bikes. If you're going for a quick, cheap upgrade in sound and performance go slip-on if you don't mind the look of the factory headpipes. I did that w/ cobra slash-cut on my 1100 and was satisfied for a while although the looks bothered me after a couple years.
Nowadays I own a new R* and decided immediately to invest in a full set of V&H Longshot HS. And in my opinion they're the best looking pipes to fit up to this model bike but you know about opinions As far as sound goes they are on the loud side, but V&H will be glad to sell you their "quiet" baffles for these pipes.

Thanks Dadstar,

A friend has V&H Longshots on his VTX1300 and when I ride behind him, I have to keep some distance, especially when the wife is on the back. I am sort of leaning towards the Cobra Speedster shorts, longs or slashdowns. I think I will stay away from the slip-ons after reading your post.

Thanks.

You can always drill the stock pipes and get more sound and a little better low-end. I did this to my '06 R* 1700 and have been pleased with the results- I like the sound and my wife does also saying it sounds better, but is not annoyingly loud.

I performed the stage 1 exhaust mod the second weekend after I bought the bike. 10 months later I am wanting a little bit more.

The Hard Krome Side Burners have a great deep rumble and are loud when you get on it. My wife says that they are not bad for her, and as long as other riders are not on my right side they are not bad. At idle they are about 105 dB.
