Questions for the Darksiders 1 Year, 7 Months ago
Was airing up my tires today and seen that I am in dire need of new tires, both front and back. I've been reading about the success a lot of the good people on this forum has had using Comtrac tires on the rear of there bikes. I have a 2006 R* Silverado with the stock mag type wheels and was wondering what size to use without any mods to my rear fender?
Also seeing that I need to change both tires, has anyone tried to use a CT on the front, and if so what kind and size? I know my dad's old Indian (GOD I wish I had it) used car tires front and back.
I'm not stuck on using Comtrac tires, and will consider using any kind that will fit with out modification to the bike or fenders.
I ride this bike to work from the time the snow is gone untill the temp. drops to 27 degrees, ( I know, I'm a Wuss )and I'm tired of replacing the rear tire once or twice a year.
Thanks
Denny

I'm running the Comtrac on the back of mine, I used the 175/75/16. Yes it is possible to run a CT on the front, but you would have to use the chart on the Darkside forum to do the conversion from the MC tire (front) to a CT.

On the front of mine I'm running a Perilli Route 66 Rear tire in reverse rotation. I went one size bigger so I have the 150 instead of the 130. I like it, except being a wider tire, you get more feed back from the road, like road tar ribs and hi-ways that have the grooves cut into them. Take a little to get used to.

I now have close to 4000 miles on mine and they look like new.

Darn,
The Pirelli tire you are using on the front is a rear 150/80-16.
Is this correct?

Yes the 150/80/16. You can run the 130 rear (MS1700 runs 130) or a stock front if you want (Inubus has a stock front). Inubus is also running a wider rear tire, I think it's a bridgestone 185, you'll have to ask him for exactly which tire he uses.

Did the link help you at all? I'm not sure, but when the front does finally wear out, I might see about putting a CT on the front or going back down to the 130.

I'm running Dunlop Elite-3's front & rear on my '00 & I'm getting really good service out of them. The rear tire has about 5500mi. on it now & it still has lots of miles left in it.
Next time around, I'm going w/the Comtrac on the rear but I'll put another E-3 on the front (probably bump-up to a 150).
You might want to at the E-3's for your next steering tire.
Just my .02.

The problem with running a CT on front is finding a size that fits. And I don't think there is one. At least I haven't found one.

For the front you can get a rear and run in reverse rotation so tire replace and ware should be real close. Handling isn't compromised it in my opinion the best way to go.

Makcap, what brand of rear tire do you run on the front?
Also, those of you using the Comtrac tire, do any of you mount your own tire or do you take them in to be mounted. ( sounds bad I know )
