I stripped and sanded just to clean them all up, it removes most if not all imperfections and then used the rouge, helps if you have a buffer or a friend with a buffer, I just purchased a cheap bench buffer from Harbor Freight, it should last for as long as I feel the need to polish, I'm thinking of polishing them one more time and sending for a clear ceramic coating.

Once there stripped, and hour or so to polish using a bench grinder with a polishing wheel. A bit longer with the drill powered wheels.

Definitely try for a bench grinder, saves a lot of time, can probably knock out the controls in a few miutes. I did the lower forks, levers, upper tree, and controls in about 4 hours. Would be substantially less with using the stripper.

Intresting thread, I'm guessing it probably takes longer to strip all the buttons and switches etc. than it does to polish them...

What did you guys use to strip the clear coat off the parts? I have never heard of "aircraft stripper". It sounds like something Larry Flint would have on Hustler Airlines and wouldn't be sold in O'Riley auto parts.

I think I had mine up to a chrome-like polish in 30-45 minutes using a standard bench grinder/polisher. The clearcoat comes right off.
Just use a dark polish bar, followed with a white. Not a hard process at all. A little Mothers once in a while and they'll shine forever.
The only problem with polishing them is that the internal switches really aren't made for removal and re-installation. They're pretty flimsy...

I made a post that sounded exactly like yours and this is what the guys recommended.
Were they as hard to install as the seller makes them out to be? Or is it just take your time, attention to detail, and be careful?
