I just noticed oil drips on the floor under the front pulley of my 05 R*. I looked with a mirror and can see oil dripping but from where? Thanks

Take the cover off and check that you pulley is OK. A leak in that area is usually related to the belt being run too tight and the seal around the shaft is deformed and leaks. Hope it is something simple.

Check the pulley nut they back off and it may have screwed the seal up.

It's probably gear oil. could be the pulley nut is loose, or the oil seal or o-ring is bad. If the nut is loose and tightening does not stop the leak, suggest to change both seal and o-ring. I recently had the leak, and in most cases it is the o-ring (this info from a reliable service mngr), but just my luck it was the seal. Rather than do it twice, change the both and avoid the 2 time labor. I have to remove pipe due to having Dooleys, it is a pain!!

Is this a fix that I should attempt or take to dealer? I do most of my own repairs.

it's not too hard a fix, just a few things to watch for. the spacer behind the pulley has to go on the correct way, so just pay attention to when ya take it off. One other issue is the middle drive shaft will be sticking out, this makes it a bit more difficult to get behind the seal to pop it out, prevents getting a good angle with a screwdriver blade. but it's a lot more work to take the transfer case apart to remove the drive shaft, finally beat it out with a screwdriver tho. lol I went to home depot and got some plumbing pieces to give enough hollow to fit over the shaft and to fit the circumference of the seal to hit it back on, used a 1 1/2 inch coupler (threads on one side) got a solid cap and another piece that I added to threaded side, was a perfect fit, if ya need pics of the 3 pieces, send me a PM, be happy to help. I think a dealer will be about 2hrs labor plus parts
