Sitting position - I need a change 1 Year, 7 Months ago
|
|
|
I am 6 feet tall. I am pretty sure they are stock risers/handle bars. The seat/bar position makes me slouch and it is getting hard on the back. I find myself trying to push my backside back for a comfortable riding position. But the passenger seat gets in the way. What can i do to adjust my position? Rotate the bars upward? What about risers and what shape? Are there seats that push you back 2 or 3 inches?
Thanks

I had the same problem so I rotated the stock bars up and built the floorboard extensions. I have a Corbin seat which helps the back some but I'm thinking of changing the seat at some point. The floorboard extensions helped alot but I'm still thinking about a Mustang or Ultimate seat with a backrest. Pullback risers may be in the future too.

I'm 6'4 and I had the same problem. I took a buddy's bike out one day with a set of apes on it and it was great. It definitely helps you from slouching over and you can adjust them forward or back quite a bit. It is very comfortable for taller people.

Same problem for me but only after I went to a solo ride. Loosing the back rest really had me slouching and the pain in the neck and shoulders was bad enough that i would need to rest every 100 miles or so. Now, with Apes, it's all good. No pain, no problem!! I can only speak for the apes, I have not tried the nastolgia bars or beach bars.

I'm 6'2" and while I have always love my R*, there are easy mods you can make that will greatly improve your riding comfort. The stock seat is terrible, so that was the first change I made. I went with the Ultimate seat, but there are other good options out there....it's a matter of choice. Do a search on the forum and you will find a ton of input on this subject. Earlier this year I added a set of Yamaha risers, Kury Iso-grips and Kury highway pegs. Each change added measureably to my riding comfort. The risers provide 2 1/4 inch rise and 1 1/4 inch pullback over the stock risers. My shoulders and neck were generally pretty stiff after long rides....not anymore. I stuck with the stock handlebars, but angled them up a bit for improved comfort. I highly recommend risers.....the Yamaha risers I bought are part number STR-5PX75-70-01; they come in brushed or smooth (chrome). This set of risers work fine with existing cables and brake line. The highway pegs also make a big difference. I wasn't sure I'd like them, but I find my feet on the pegs more often than not. The next "creature comfort" mod for me will likely be floorboard extensions.

Floorboard extensions did a lot to start with. Then I dished out the stock seat. So far so good. BTW I'm 6'1".

The Mustang seat will move you forward, not back. Much more comfortable seat, specially with back rest, but will move you forward.

Is there a seat out there that'll slide you back? I was thinking of having the stock seat redone to slide me back & lower a bit. Maybe it'll save some $$ this way?
