Idle Question 1 Year, 6 Months ago
So, I started playing around with the idle adjuster screw yesturday because I felt the idle was a little high after I installed a new intake (may have just been in my head). I ended up lowering the idle pretty low, just because I like the "loaping" sound at idle. The low idle sound remindes me of a "cam-ed up" V8. My question is: is there any harm or problems I might run accross with keeping the idle low? And does this idle adjustment screw affect anything else besides idle (air/fuel across the power band), i.e. am I lossing power somehow by adjusting this know down?

Thanks for any "2 Cents" ya have for me guys...

I was originally lured by the same thing. But I felt like the engine might be getting starved for oil, so I now have it set at 1000 rpm.

My 2000 is all stock (as far as I know) and I've tried turning the idle down to but it seems to really hesitate when I start from a complete stop so I bumped it back up again.

Mikey to answer your question: My bike has an oil pressure gauge on it and at 900 rpm idle the oil pressure is only 8 lbs and if it is hot it is only 5 lbs. At highway speeds (70 mph) the oil pressure is 80 lbs so in my mind yes it is bad to run your idle low. The rest is up to you!

Guess they think it needs 80 psi at 70 mph both my bike have the same pressure so I am sure others do as well.

How much does the pressure change between 800 and the 900 you have yours set at?

While we're talking idle-y , does any one have a sound byte of 900 rpm and 1000 rpm? No gauge and I've adjusted it up and down so many times I can't remember what it sounds like.
