you'll find there oil can go the whole season

You could go a full season if you're only riding 4000 miles per season. For me, it doesn't matter what motor oil goes in my crankcase; it's coming out at 4000 miles. Period.

The only 20W-50 synthetic oil that Mobil 1 makes is the V-Twin.

06, they (mobil 1) also makes a 20-50 synthetic called racing4t for bikes , which I put in my wifes magna, as it's designed for higher revving motors. Maybe that's what he's getting, as I too am paying around 8.50 per qt. for the v-twin oil for myself.BB

Post edited by: DocShadow, at: 2007/07/04 08:17

Oh, that's right. I forgot about that one. The Mobil 1 Racing 4T oil doesn't seem to be as readily available as the Mobil 1 cager oils and the V-Twin oil.

If he IS using the Racing 4T, I guess he doesn't know that it's not the better choice for the Road Star.

I hope he speaks up to clarify what he's using. If he's getting Mobil 1 V-Twin for $23.95 a gallon, I want him to send me a case of it!

I too am paying around 8.50 per qt. for the v-twin oil for myself.

Last season, Auto Zone was selling the V-Twin for $7.99 per quart. I walked into NAPA for something else and saw it under the counter for $8.99 per quart.

I like the V-Twin, but for economics (since I change my oil every 4000 miles anyway), I may go with Shell Rotella T or Golden Spectro 4 when I make the switch to synthetic oil. I've read that all the Mobil 1 cager oils contain small amounts of moly.

Thanks.

Big Bear:

I went back to look at Mobils web-site and the Mobil 1 Racing 4T synthetic is 10W-40 weight, not 20W-50. Mobil 1 V-Twin IS Mobil's only 20W-50 weight oil, which begs the question:

Where is he getting V-Twin for $23.95 a gallon? I think he spent too much time in the sun.

On another note, I started comparing numbers and now the Racing 4T 10W-40 synthetic doesn't look so bad for our Road Stars:

Oil, Base, Viscosity, VI, Flash Pt, Pour Pt

Shell Rotella T, petroleum, 5W-40, 176, 432, -40
Mobil 1 TD Truck, synthetic, 5W-40, 151, 439, -49
Mobil 1 Racing 4T, synthetic, 10W-40, 164, 487, -65
Mobil 1 (Silver), synthetic, 15W-50, 154, 455, -38
Mobil 1 EP (Gold), synthetic, 15W-50, 145, 442, -44
Amsoil MCV, synthetic, 20W-50, 153, 464, -44
Mobil 1 V-Twin, synthetic, 20W-50, 150, 518, -60
Golden Spectro 4, petroleum, 20W-50, 146, 446, -9

Thanks.

Post edited by: 06MidnightStar, at: 2007/07/06 19:58

'06 you sir are correct, I have made a mistake I don't remember the last time this happened. It's not the sun that got to be but the lack there of. It's been raining here in Dallas for about 25 days straight. My brain has become waterlogged.

I am clarifying my mistake now : I am using Mobil-1 synthetic 15w-20 silvercap, purchased at Wal-mart yesterday for 23.65 + tax for 1 US gallon.

Please forgive me!!!

slowpoke:

You mean the 15W-50, right? Mobil doesn't make a 15W-20.

Actually, the numbers on the 15W-50 Silver Cap are quite impressive, when compared to the numbers on the 15W-50 Gold Cap.

Good choice, slowpoke, if that's what you bought!

I just shipped my wife and mother-and-law to Dallas, via PHL, to attend a family wedding. Of course, I couldn't attend. It would be sacrilege (notice my avatar).

Thanks!
