I've been into it but I didn't check any of the bushing to see what they were.

I stopped by my regular Yamaha shop on the way home and talked to the service manager there. He's new to this shop, but has been working with Yamaha's for quite a while. Anyway, he says that the GL5 has been used in the Roadies (both 1600 & 1700) with no ill effects. I think I'll stick with the AmsOil 80/90 and hope for the best

That's correct .... the chains and gears should be OK.

The shaft also uses roller bearings rather than bushings so that area is probably OK too.

But I think I'll stick with GL-4.

Doc,

I'd like to use GL4 but I'll be damned if I can find any around here. Been to 2 dealers and 1 motorcycle specific store and can only find GL5. Glad I got the extended warranty And a record that my dealer had put GL5 in it. And no, it's not the YES program so I should be OK if there's a problem

Auto parts stores carry gear oil too. They're all over the place.

Re:GL5 = GL4??? 1 Year, 6 Months ago
Well I can now understand what the problem is.

I was in the local automotive department store shopping so I stopped by the gear oil section. They had 7 brands - 4 were GL-5, 2 were Type C marine oil and 1 was GL-4/GL-5 non-synthetic oil (which they didn't have on the shelf )
