Ape Hanger and Extended Cables 4 Years ago
Gents, I'm new to the board so I'm just finding my way around but I have an important question. I bought a 2001 Roadstar Midnite Star with drag bars on it a couple of months ago. I just got out of the Marine Corps and I am a service disabled vet with back problems so leaning forward to the drag bars hurt my back so bad I can't even ride any more. I bought a set a 15" ape hangers that allow me to set straight up without hurting my back but I have no idea where to go to buy all the extended cables (brake, clutch, electrical and such) without going to a local bike shop and getting raped. I'm fairly mechanically inclined so if I could find the stuff I could probably do it myself. Anyone out there got any ideas for a jarhead? Thanks fella's.

The electrical you will need to make yourself .... Just splice in the extra length that you need and cover the wires with wrap of you choice.

The cables can be bought from a number of vendors (look here ... Vendors . You may find the local can provide the parts as cheaply by the time you factor in shipping.

Hope the apes work out for you.

The throttle and clutch cables I can get made for you; I need to know how much longer than standard they need to be, and do you want black or stainless braid. The factory brake hose is one piece and will have to be replaced with component parts. I can supply the parts too; again do you want black or stainless. Wires need to be cut and spliced. I have a standing offer for all clinic members to supply parts and accessories for my cost + 10% + shipping. Send me a private message.

On my '01 Midnight Star I added 4" Risers w/12 Apes and the factory wiring worked. I believe my mechanic got the brake, throttle and clutch lines at J&P (which were the longest that they offered he said).

Oh, and
and THANX for your service.

I've got front brake lines and idle cable for 16 inch apes, all braided stainless steel, they came in the kit for barons kong bars, the kit cost $330, so less the throttle and clutch cables I'd sell it for 125 shipped.

I put 17 inch apes on my bobber and ordered all of the cables. The black clutch cable came from Barnett. I ran the electric wires through the bars and liked the clean look so much I decided to use a foot clutch and hand shift so I wouldn't have the clutch cable on the bars. I now have a brand new clutch cable for 17 inch apes in my garage collecting dust. You can have it for $10 bucks and I will ship.

I also ordered a "push" throttle cable that I did not use. Found out you do not need it. The "pull" cable opens the throttle on the carb and a great big spring on the carb closes it. If you can use the "push" cable I will throw it in.

Re:Ape Hanger and Extended Cables 3 Years, 10 Months ago
I'm building a bobber from a 1981 suzuki gs 850. It will have 14 or
16" apes. I have been trying to locate cables(throttle and clutch)as well as brake line. The cables will have to be 9" over stock. I understand that people use harley cables and change the ends and resolder. But I don't know which particular harleys cables are compatible with a 1981 Suzuki gs 850, can anyone help?
Thanks
