Seat suitable for a long driver 3 Years, 1 Month ago
Hi. I would like to change seat to a more comfortable seat than stock on my Roadstar. I´m a rather long person and sits better on my Radstar than other bikes that I tried. If it is possible I would be sitting perfectly if I could sit more to the rear. But when I read about other seats like Mustang seat, they often pushes the driver forward a little bit. I would rather be a little bit more back on the bike. Any suggestion about seats that will do this for me?
I´ve read a little about Ultimate Seats and in some comments it looks like I could sit a little bit more back with that seat. Is that right?

Now I uses the stock seat and have airhawk on the top of it for real long trips. But I misses the feeling of contact with my bike with airhawk. But I rather use my airhawk and stock seat if the alternative is to sit more forward.

Any suggestion about seats?

Hi Bluewing,
From what I understand, the Corbin seats sit you a little further back than stock. My bike had a Corbin Dual Touring seat on it when I bought it. It's a very comfortable seat. It's more firm than the Mustang that I had on my previous ride, and takes a bit of getting used to, or breaking in. Hope this helps you.

Another option you should consider if you want more leg room but the stock seat is comfortable is extending the boards forward a bit.

There are a number of vendors selling floorboard relocation kits which move the floorboards forward which give more leg room.

Thanks for your ideas. The Corbin seat could be interesting if it does what you say (isn´t it Corbin that makes the Yamaha orginal dual touring seat?) But I don´t know if I´d like a harder seat? But maybe this seat is hard in a comfortable way?
A comfortable seat isnt allways a soft seat.
About the floor board idea: I have a fatbar engine guard that stop me from relocating my floorboards. Take it away then, maybe you say. But this engine guard saved my leg when a car crashed into me some weeks ago. The car looked more damaged than my bike. So my engine guard is now one of my closest friends. I will never take it off
But maybe there is some solution that moves the floorbords forward just a bit?

Ah ... a subject I am now an expert in

I too like to sit back. I discovered eventually that a lot of my discomfort was I was actually sitting on the back ridge of the seat. I have extended floorboards as well.

I tried stock ... no no no

I tried stock with gel pad ... better ... only no no

I tried Mustang with back rest ... no way ... felt like I was sitting on the tank. Took the backrest off and I ended up sitting like i used to and sitting on the backrest bracket insert was terrible. no no no no no no

Tried the Corbin. Sat "okay" but felt like it was a concrete block. This was a friends seat that had 10,000 on it, so I am sure it was broken in.

Tried the Ultimate ... ah ... sitting on a cloud. I sat back a bit too far still, but once it was broken in (about 1000 miles) it was so much better. Put a backrest on to FORCE ME to sit right and I can ride tank to tank to tank with no problems. A short trip for me is 300 miles, so seat comfort is critical. Very happy with the Ultimate seat and with the service they provide. MAKE SURE you tell them you want the backrest bracket in the pillion seat. That way if you decide you want to get one, you just buy it and put it in. I also run a sheepskin and on hot days I am much more comfy and cold days warmer.

I have ridden on Russell Day Long Saddles as well. My next bike may get one of those, but the Ultimate on my R* is great.

Hi again Bluewing,
Yes, Corbin does make the saddles for Yamaha. And yes, it is firm, but in a comfortable way, at least to my tastes. What Crash said about the Ultimate seats is what I hear from a lot of people. However, I've never personally sat on one. The only way to really know first hand, is to put a long day or two in a seat. Even the stock seat felt good to my, until I put a 300 mile day in on one.

I have tried Corbin seat and think it´s good, but I have not used it for one or two whole days. And my first impression was that it was a bit too firm for me. But I thought that about the stock seat first too. Buts now its quite ok.But I would like to have a better seat than stock.
About Ultimate Seats: Well it´s looks good and I have read about other drivers saying the same as you do, Crash. If you let a bike with that seat out in the rain for a day, is it all wet inside then? I have never had a seat with much stitching in top of it? Is this a problem in real life or?
And is it so that I must send my ordinary stock seat in return?

I was able to demo a Corbin seat for three days...after that much riding I had no doubt about it. I find it very comfortable, especially on long rides. 718 miles in a day.

Regards
Rick

I have a Corbin seat on my bike now, and it is firm but very comfortable on my rides. It is so comfortable in fact that i do not think about my butt aching anymore, which has given me more time to worry about the vibration I have in my bike.

P.S. Don't get Tan Ostritch, Corbin has a problem with it peeling , had to send my seats back under warranty to get recovered, and I am going with Mercedes black, black flames, maroon sides/piping, studs, and frilly stuff. Cost me 20 bucks for the studs and frilly stuff, but that is for two Roady seats.
