Don't forget that things expand and contract with changes in temperature. That might be why it slips when cold and is fine when hot. I have not seen anyone where out the clutch necessitating replacement. The RoadStar has a notoriously week spring. So you can probably fix the spring problem and your good to go.
Clifford
Barnetts spring kit with their standard springs is $137.5 list, $110.00 to you. They have a set of heavy duty springs that lists for $21.51, $14.50 to you.

I have a 01 r* with 70k on it now. And noticed the last few times i jam it hard from a low rpm the clutch will slip. So i think it is time to replace it, What's the best brand to buy ??? i use synthetic oil (mobil 1 ) only. I noticed some brands do not recommend using synthetic oil ?? Or is it better to replace it with genuine yamaha parts, i know it will cost a lot more.

Replace what, the friction plates? From everything I have heard, and if they are out of spec (friction plates)then stick with OEM. But more than likely it is the spring plate that has gotten weak. I have 125k on stock plates, use automotive oils and have yet to have slippage. I do run with a modified clutch for the last 75k miles, I have a Virago1100 spring plate piggy backed to the stocker. There are number of options for the spring plate, what I did, double up with another stocker, Barnett, Warrior, and in the Speedstar accessories they offer another 2 spring plates. The Virago plate is a little smaller in diameter, so the fingers have a slight over lap on top the the stock plate, this was recommended to me by a 30yr Yamaha tech.

The bolts that hold the spring stretch I would replace with grade 8 and blue loc tite. Just my opinion the stock are very soft and malleable. Plates also do get gummed up, while not in a constant bath. This in my opinion can cause less of the oils wet clutch components and more of the lubricant to be enforce. Some sea foam 100 miles or what you are comfortable with will restore. Some don't like that thought. Just sharing an opinion of factual things I have done. Bike runs fine and no side effects. I sea-foam 6 oz. prior oil change, the bike holds about 1 quart after drain from estimates of yamaha mechanics. So I'm told have no factual info, but I can see that with out question possible. I have the barrnet it did have slippage at one time, and will be going to the EFM auto clutch this winter. Yes Tampa it's gonna happen lol.

I have also experienced cold weather clutch slippage. It was best felt when shifting into fifth, but I'm not worried about it. For the sake of others reading this thread (and myself) how is the clutch pull after either the Barnett kit or piggy-backing?
@Makcap Although I have no need for one at this point in my life, I have checked out EFM's videos on their website....quite impressive.

Thats great!!!
Question, did you use the std springs that come with the kit or did you opt for the optional H/D springs?
Thanks---Scott
