Warranty 4 Years, 5 Months ago
Anyone have any idea how much grief I am going to get on any warranty related issues if I pull the AIS and charcoal canister off my bike? What makes it worse is I am in California.

Thanks for the info. Would be nice ot not have to reinstall it all in the even of a catastrophic failure, so tht is good news inded. I think warranty or no ... I will do the deed when I put in a new jet kit and air filter when I upgrade the pipes.

Thanks again.

I SEEM TO BE WEEKS BEHIND IN RESPONDING TO THESE. ANYWAY, I'M IN CO CALIF AND MY DEALER REMOVED THE SMOG/AIS STUFF AND SAID IT WOULD NOT VOID ANYTHING. HE DID SAY CALIF MAY START SMOGGING I THINK 06 OR 07 M/C, BUT IT WOULD NOT INCLUDE OLDER BIKES. LOL

Re:Warranty 4 Years ago
I heard if they start SMOG in CA that it will go back 5 years ... so 06 or 07 would screw me ... ah well, it is gone anyway. As far as the warrenty goes, unless I have a serious catastrophic failure in the next 6 months it is a moot point because I refuse to let the nitwits at the shop touch my bike ever again so buying a 5 year warranty to have morons work on my bike would not be in my best interest. Anything that goes wrong after June will be my issue.

Removing the AIS does not invalidate the warranty Crash. If the dealer gives you grief about it, go somewhere else.

The smog issue may be another story, but I removed the AIS from both of my bikes. Hope it doesn't turn into a CA issue for me later.

Re:Warranty 4 Years ago
This thread is a bit dated since I have had my AIS and all SMOG stuff off for months now.

As for grief from a dealer - you must never have heard my trouble with the dumb asses at Concord Yamaha and how I had to get my lawyer involved to get them to replace the carb THEY broke. Was priceless to watch the shop owners face when he said "We have NEVER adjusted your carburetor" and I handed him 4 reciepts (all within 600 miles of buying the bike - I TOLD YOU IDIOTS IT WAS TOO LEAN!) clearly stating they HAD adjusted the carb several times. (they had broken the PMS Screw tower pulling the plug it appears). I will just do all my own work. More trouble for me, but cheaper, less stressful, less chance of a heart attack and less chance of going to prison for choking some stupid punk mechanic to death ("Sir, your problem is you do not know how to use a choke." Punk, I have been riding bikes with chokes for about 15 more years than you have even been alive - I suggest you get your boss before you really piss me off.)

I have heard most local shops are about on par with these guys. Would be nice to have a good shop that I could trust, alas, the only reputable garage in the area appears to me MINE.

Unfortunate, but Ditto. We have one real good wrench around here (Riverside Area) that EVERYONE seems to go to (not a Dealer). He's a great guy. Otherwise its pretty much my Garage only.

ANYONE IN THE SO CAL WITHIN 50 MILES OF YAMAHA OF CUCAMONGA. GREAT PLACE. SMALL, VERY SMALL DEALER. SHOPE ABOUT THE SIZE OF A 3 CAR GARAGE. THEY DID MY BAK AND EXHAUST ADD ON. PASADENA YAMAHA DID NOT, I REPEAT, DID NOT WANT TO DO IT. THE DEALER IN THE SAN FERNANDO VALLEY, KOLBE, WAS HESITANT. LONG STORY SHORT I'M HAPPY WITH CUCAMONGA. THEY HAVE A NICE WEBSITE TOO WITH PICS OF STAR BIKES THEY'VE WORKED ON.

Re:Warranty 4 Years ago
ALL experiences noted (and messages deleted).

Phil I sincerely hope you run a dealership that provides great service. I know of a few, and will vouch for them. I also know of some that do not. I am sure you can understand that Crash's implication of his dealer was unique to the dealer and his circumstance. If his comments offended you, I apologize on behalf of all of us who may have experienced less than reasonable response from our dealers and assure you they were not directed at you.

You will occaisionally hear comments of these types on most message boards, and quite frankly for any type of bike made. Please don't take them personally. We value your participation, but ask that you respect the experiences of other too.

EGA equipment is not particularly hard to use or understand, and recent developments have put EGA devices into the realm of the home mechanic. This is a great thing that allows us to do even more fine tuning and persoanl adjustment on our machines than we used to be able to.

Although there may be a great number of folks who do stupid things to their bikes, I personally take issue with using that as a blanket implication of anyone. There are a good number of decent mechanics who do not work for dealerships, and they are NOT the problem. This is not a wholesale endorsement of anyone doing anything to their bike because they read how to on a message board, but it is an acknowledgement of the expertise that exists in this community of riders.

You, unfortunately, tend to see many of the mistakes and errors, and get the less than enviable job of cleaning it up.

In any event, please maintain respect for the other posters here. You do not have to agree with them, just accord the respect to them that they should be entitled to in a public forum like this one.

Thanks Phil, and Welcome to the Clinic!!
