Rev Limiter??? 1 Year, 4 Months ago
Can anyone tell me what RPM the rev limiter kicks in? I have an 01' and want to make sure I'm not dealing with a fueling problem at the upper rpm. I have access to a dyno so I can watch RPM on that.

I think the 01 limiter is set the same as the 03 at 4250. I just put a 05 ignition box in and bumped it up to 4750.

Just an FYI, if you put on a Speedstar ignition module, it will get bumped up to 5500 rpm. I'm having all KINDS of fun with that. - Rod.

doc,
I mean no disrespect, and I think most of us bow to your knowledge, but are you sure about the 4400 for an '01? From various sources I thought it was 4250. I'm running a Dyna 3000 bumped to 5000. Rarely go that high, but I just didn't like hitting the limiter.

None taken .... and there is a lot that I still don't know.

Page 3-62 of the Service Manual ..... This motorcycle does not have a tachometer. However, it is equipped with an engine revolution limiter, which prevents the engine revolution from exceeding approximately 4,400 r/min.

If you check the Dyno runs on the Star site you will also see that the stock runs end at about 4400.

I've also heard the 4250 number but I don't know where it comes from. The lowest setting on the Dyna is 4250 so maybe it was assumed that the stock setting was 4250.

as usual Doc, I bow in the presence of knowledge. I guess my info falls into the category of "Consistently Recognized As Proper", or C.R.A.P.

The number 4250 comes from many different sources. I did a search for topic and people that test road the Road*. You get fromm 4000 to 4400 as the stock rev limiter. So I guess it falls into the no two bikes are alike.
