Doc's Plugs 4 Years, 10 Months ago
I put on a set of Nemesis coils about 100 miles ago and today I put in my Dyna 3000.

As a baseline, I thought I would check out the plugs before running the bike. Since putting on the coils and hi-perf wires I have not noticed a difference in the bike. However, upon checking the plugs I have notice a small difference in the way they look. Unfortunately, I can't find my pre-coil pics.

Front plug:

- electrode - fairly clean before and after coils
- porcelain - fairly clean near tip before and after, slight coloration moving down to the base
- ground strap - cleaner after coils and you can definitely see the timing marks
- threaded body - black before coils; after coils, the top of the threaded body seems to be 'cleaning' itself (for the lack of a better description) as evident by the silver blotches

Rear plug (poor pic):

- electrode - black before; brown after
- porcelain - black before; slightly whiter at the extreme tip progressing to black
- ground strap - black before; white at the tip
- threaded body - black before; black after but odd silver speckling

It's unfortunate that I did not have more miles on the bike before putting the Dyna in. Overall, the plugs seems to have less carbon deposits on them than before I installed the coils and I would be interested in seeing if the plugs would even be 'cleaner' after another 200 m.

I'm going to pull the plugs after another tankful (probably in a month the way it's going now and see what's up.

Hey Doc did you order both wires and coils from DK or neither.... trying to decide if I want dyna or Nemesis or if I want them at all tested my coils today readings are 1.5 on the primary and 15 on the secondary without the resistors ...any comment or advice would be welcomed . I already have the Dyna3000 installed for a couple hundred miles and I noticed an immediate difference all they way around smoother idle....... quicker on the throttle increase in mpgs 42 last check .....Coug

Coils sound within spec.

I only purchased the Nemesis coils. I was going to go with Magnecor wires but was too impatient. I bought a hi-perf 8.8 mm spiral wrapped wire kit locally and cut the wires to length

It's raining here but I was able to go around the block for a test ride. The Dyna 3000 looks like it might be a winner. I didn't notice a smoother idle but it's crisper off the line and a 25 mph roll on in second.

I've set the Dyna at 34A.

I'm running my 3000 at 36A and boy does my scooter scoot. Just ask slowpoke he rode it. Did you cut a hole in the battery box so you can change the setting without taking it out? If you do all you have to do is pull the battery out to change the dip switches. Did you set it for 5000 rpm?

Post edited by: Curt, at: 2007/07/14 22:25

Yes, I made a hole in the box.

I also set my rev limiter to 5000 rpm. With the stock box I was limiting out at 90 km/h in second; with the Dyna it's 100.

I really think the 3000 and the oversized o-rings were two things that helped get mine out of the SVS dump.
