Well the good new is Road kill gets his gold star on the home work back ... Im guessing the only way to ensure that this continues working is to purchase a new unit never to be put in ... I am gonna roll the dice today and remove the tape covering the blinky light , Im fairly certain this will cause the gage to fail .... ha ha

Re:Gas Gage Voodoo, new owner Needs advise 1 Year, 4 Months ago
I just pulled the sending unit from my tank this morning. It's no big deal to do. And if i say that then it really is no big deal to do. Two 10mm head bolts hold it in place. There is a rubber gasket. pull out the unit and the float. the float is shaped to fit in the hole perfectly. (my 18 month old has a little game where you have to pick the right shape for the right hole--glad i learned how to play)

So, my sending unit's float arm was loose. the little washer and clamp washer (not sure what you call it) were not set all the way down. As well, there are three little metal feet that go from the base of the float arm mount to the electronics of the sending unit. It looks like as the level of fuel goes up or down these feet come in contact with different parts of the chip. there are two feet together and the other one separate. the two that were together were not making contact with the chip -- even with the float arm tightened. i gently bent the two together feet up and reassembled the unit. they are now making contact. i crimped the float arm just above the lock washer and put everything back together. i took pictures and will post as soon as i can figure out posting on this forum...

my problem: 10 inches snow on the ground so no way to see if i fixed my problem.

Been reviewing this thread, as I'm experiencing a problem with my 'Low Fuel Light' coming on and staying on. It does not blink, just stays on! Anyway, I see from the info shared here that my 2 best "Quick Fixes" will be checking/cleaning the connections and pulling the fuel sending unit.

Frankly gents, I question whether it's worth replacing the sending unit. If it's bad, won't a new one go bad too? Just my logical brain over thinking something....

So, I'll give these fixes a shot and let ya' all know how it comes out.

Glad I always know I've got this web-site to get the straight info on something that has to do with a Roadie!!!!
