Stage 3 re-jet?????? 1 Year, 5 Months ago
|

Below is what's on the clinic's site for Stage 1, 2 & 3.
I have a 2006 R*, I don't want to re-jet. Does this apply to the 1700?
What do you think???
I appologize if this has already be beaten to death.
"It ist is strongly recommended that you re-jet the carburetor at Stage 3. A Dyno-Jet kit using a 165 to 170 main should be sufficient. You do not want to run too lean and because the stock setup tends to run lean already, allowing exhaust to exit easier tends to exaggerate the condition. strongly recommended that you re-jet the carburetor at Stage 3. thanks

I think you will be ok with the stage 3 mod, I read Doc say you loose bottom end on the bike, maybe the jet kit will get some of it back, If I was you I would go with stage 1 it sounds nice and you loose no bottom end, you need back pressure on the bike..

Do Stage 1 or 3; Stage 2 is not really worth it.
For Stage 1 you don't need to rejet; for Stage3 you may have to.
If you don't want to rejet then don't go do more than Stage 1.

Doc
I have issue with the statement that the stock is jetted lean from the factory....
when all along we have been sayin the 1700 stock... with the 185 main is jetted rich...
which is it???...
The lean stock setting must be refering to the 1600

Post edited by: Pop Rivet, at: 2007/07/16 19:37

Musky
Ok 182.5 but isnt that what we have concluded???
The 1700 is jetted on the rich side from stock factory

Hey Pop
I think that's the prevailing opinion but I don't know if it's been proven by any kind of scientific test.(But it might have been) It sure seems to me that it was too big of a jump for 68 CC's.

well the 1600 has the 165 main with a thin needle and the 1700 182.5 main with a fat needle so the jump isnt that great....but a thinner needle allows for more fine tuning...because the speedstar jet kit comes with 4 mains but a thinner titanium needle
Any way... most who have done stage three exhaust mod on the 1700 have not rejetted unless they change the intake...am I not correct???
I believe Doc is correct... you do lose some critical backpressure and so low end torque but the sound is a deep rumble ...
I did stage 3 on my 1700 and found this to be the case so I opted for a a tuned exhaust with larger dia head pipes..but a lot of guys are happy with the stage three

Post edited by: Pop Rivet, at: 2007/07/16 20:00

YEP we have many times... but bushrjackson is questioning the statement he quoted at the beginning of this thread
So bushrjackson
I would say highway 1700 summed it up in his response pretty good

Post edited by: Pop Rivet, at: 2007/07/16 20:05
