Got the Pipes On . Finally! 1 Year, 3 Months ago
For those that don't know, I have an 08 R* and did a Stage 3 mod on my stock pipes. Then I had this terrific idea that didn't turn out so terrific to gut the cats. My only experience with gutting cats in the past was dealing with the ceramic kind and well these are something else and please take my advice and don't even try it.

SO, after having ruined one side of the exhaust I put out the word here that I needed an exhaust pronto and the good folks on this site responded right away. TexanFrog (from this site) offered to sell me a set of V&H Longshots for a VERY good price but the only catch is I would have to get the O2's installed on them.

I received the pipes and the first time I had the o2 bungs installed I made the mistake of having the welder put them in generally same spot the stock ones were located. (my thoughts were more about making sure the 02's would reach the stock location where they plug in). All excited to get home, I started right away at bolting up up the pipes, all I could think about was firing it up but I ran into a slight issue and quickly discovered the V&H's route way differently than the stock pipes and the location of the 02's would not be possible because of how close the pipes and the motor were to each other. Aaggh. Well this was during the coldest part of winter here in Fla so I just let the bike sit for weeks, Walking by it and seeing this project laying all over the garage. I knew I would have to bolt the entire exhaust on the bike and mark new locations for the 02's. Well about a week ago I did that. (Starting to warm up around here). I took the pipes back to the same welder and explained my error and he got under way on putting in the 02 bungs again. He was nice enough too and offered to grind down the old bungs and weld over them so I wouldn't need to use a small bolt to block off the old 02's.

Well this weekend I went to work and got the pipes installed, I had to length the wiring on one of the 02's. I found some wire that matched the same kind that the o2's use. Silver colored wire instead of copper. I soldered the extensions and shrink wrapped the connections, slid the silicone sleeve back down and routed the extended wire out of site and plugged back into the stock location. Everything was done and it was time to fire it up!.

OMG! This is the sound I was hoping for!. Took a while for everything and to work out but it certainly did and patience paid off.
