TIRES, TUBES AND SPOKES 1 Year, 3 Months ago
EDIT FEB 02 2011:

Dealership did not order the D404's for me. Upon closer inspection they ordered CruieMax.

I have spoked rims so i assume i have tubes. My new tires just came in, Dunlop D404's. Stealership says i need new tubes and wants 35.00 bucks a piece for them. And that's after paying over $400 for the tires. Plus they want $25.00 to change the front tire with the wheel already off. (rant rant rant)

My question, do i need new tubes? They told me i needed the same without looking at the old tubes.

Thanks
Loren

I've used my tubes as much as 3 to 4 tires worth. 400 for tire's???? Outrageous!! I use to use Metz exclusively blackwall were 132. front 105, now I switched to Shinko 777, 35 to 40 bucks less. Oop's, never mind I see you are our neighbor to the north, they seem to be much higher in pricing up there. Can't ya do this in warmer weather, ride down across the border, and get it done here? Guess it's too late now. I know a few that are close enough, and do just that. aye.

It's a gamble. I've run 2 tires on one tube without a problem. Some swear don't and some re-use tubes all the time.

If you bought the tires and are going to buy the tubes from the dealer at those prices He darn well shouldn't charge you anything for mounting and balancing.

Edit: I guess prices are higher up there though.

Your other option is to run tubeless. Seal the rims with a poly sealant. I did my front wheel last summer and it's still good. but yea, if you want to keep the tube you can use the old one if it's not too old...my bike was an O3 and had never changed the fron tire, that means the tube was 7 years old when I changed out...Age means everything.........

I think i will change the tubes too. I was just fuming at the prices. However, the dealership just lost a customer. I was bitchen to a buddy down the road and he just introduced me to the "guy" they use for repairs and such.... including tires. A little late for me but i could have got tires, tubes, tires removed from bike at his garage, balanced and so on for the price the stealership charged me for the tires.

there is such bullhonky when dealing with dealerships. This guy i met gets his tires and charges any where from 30 to 50% less then the dealership. I used a gift certificate to help purchase my tires. I think i will have to remind them that everything i can buy from them i can buy online...

Any ways, i was wondering if anyone had some cheese to go with my wine?

And on another note, The "guy" is a class "A" gentleman. The crew that he rides with are great too and have said he is an excellent mechanic. I also found out he used to ride a Road Star... his eyes kinda lit up when he started talking about her. I think he may miss her.

Referrals are usually the best. My business is going strong and I don't advertise. It's all word of mouth. Trust you buddies.

I buy all I can from my dealer because I want him to stay in business and we've been friends since 1977. I can even get my K&N oil filter there cheaper than anywhere but he's not afraid to tell me that there is no way he can compete with tires. He keeps some in case someone needs one "right now" but that's it.

As far as OEM parts I don't buy anywhere else. He deserves my support.

The US list price for D404 130/90x16 front is $120 and the D404 150/80x16 rear is $148, for a total of $268. I sell tires mounted and balanced for the list price; that would be rolling down the road for $268 with Florida taxes the only extra. I will reuse a tube as long as it isn't rinkled, a crease is an ideal place for a leak!
