Shift Linkage 1 Year, 3 Months ago
Well, has anyone had this happen? I put a pair of brackets on my floorboards (forward, tilted) and I was immediately impressed with the riding position.

Now for the problem: The shift linkage rubs one of the side case bolts. It seems that in order to adjust the rod properly for a good lever position, I had to pitch the shifter forward on it's spline. Well, as it goes forward, it lowers the shift rod (increased lower angle). I did a little careful grinding on the bolt head and bottom of the rod, but that is NOT how I want it to stay.

Problem is, a longer shift rod probably won't help because the angle is still wrong.....Any insight from some of you guys who have moved your boards?

Well, since no one replied, I'll throw in my 2cents. I haven't heard of anybody having this problem. I know I didn't. Maybe your bracket is slightly smaller on that side.

I added a 1" coupling nut with a 1" stud on the rear of the shift rod.
Now the front and rear linkages are straight up as they were before
I moved the boards forward.

Also means that I still have the same amount of possible adjustment
in or out that I had when it was stock.

Hope this helps you,
Spydr

I'll take a Pic if you'd like.

Do like Spydr said I had to add about an inch and a quarter to my rod when I went to the forward controls.

Thanks guys. I'll try adding an inch or so and see if it helps. (We're still talking about shift rods, right?) Also, where did you find the threaded stock and extender in metric?

I made mine out of an old shift rod but JP Cycles and others have just the extenders as well as longer shift rods.
