Re:Fuel Management or not????? 1 Year, 2 Months ago
I have been back an forth on this, myself. I installed pipes, Maxair filter, and FIRE module. I wasn't satisfied with the results because the fuel mileage went down to around 30 and I could tell it was running rich. I placed the O2 sensors back on and removed the FIRE module.

The bike was back to normal but I missed the extra power that the FIRE provided. I did some research and learned that I could probably dial in the module by tweaking the settings.

I re-installed it and removed the sensors. I leaned it out in the normal operating ranges and changed the circuit transition points to higher RPM settings. Actually, the first tweak seemed to be on the money.

The power is much better than stock and even better than the first go around. My mileage isn't quite as good as stock. I get between 37-40. The bike is only rated for 36 so I don't think it's a big deal. The most I ever got stock was slightly over 40. The power is worth it to me.

Short answer is yes it will run fine without the module but if you get the right one and tweak it you can really wake the FI bike up.

There's a cheaper way to adjust the mixture on FI bikes at higher throttle settings when the system is in open loop.

I've posted this article before -

http://go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoMAPsensor.htm

The wire colors would be different of course but the effect on the system should be the same.

I found it on Ebay. I believe it's a D&M brand. Watch out for the China-made ones. They're a little crappy in my opinion...
