Heel/Toe Shifter Mod 4 Years, 10 Months ago
I find that I never use my heel shifter. I am thinking of cutting the shifter lever off so only the toe shaft is on. The reason being that I like to rest my foot toward the back of the floorboard sometimes, and the heel shifter is in the way. Anyone else ever cut their shifter ?

Yup! You bet! I just cut the back part off and and rounded the metal off to a round contour with my belt-sander and touched up the edge with silver paint to keep the rust off. Standing besidee th bike, you cant tell anything was ever cut off!
(Of course, if you are one of those rich guys that have an '06 or newer, you just remove the "New for '06 removeable heel shifter" with the flip of a wrench!
Mine is a 2005 which had the old style one-peice heel/toe shifter.

Post edited by: StarMyram, at: 2007/07/28 00:17

Frankie-

I had the same problem with the heel/toe shifter. I was going to cut mine, but I found one like Pop pointed you to on eBay for about $20. I love it--the size 13s can move around with no accidental shifting...

Thanks for the info fellas I too have a size 13EEE that takes up the whole floorboard. I just have never used the heel shifter on any bike I have owned, but one of my riding buddies says he can't live without his heel shifter. It's just in my way. The one Pop linked me to looks pretty sharp ! Might have to get one of those.

That's a nice looking piece but i'm way to used to my heel shifter. If I took it off I'd get all confused and hurt myself.

Uh huh Just wait until you drop a big rock on your toe and you can't ride because it hurts too much to pull up on the shifter. Then you'll be wishing you still had the heel shifter won't ya Just don't say I didn't tell ya.
