I am on my third Avon Venom rear and soon to be second Avon Venom front tire. They grip great wet or dry, they are smooth quiet, and look good. I get about 12,500 from the rear and have 18K on the front and will probably change it in a couple thousand miles. I have never heard anyone that ran an Avon say a bad thing about them, but I see and hear a lot about Metzler's cracking sidewalls and loosing large chunks of tread. Avons are not cheap, but I think they are well worth the money.

Ran Metz for years and switched to Avons abut 15yrs ago. Highly recommend the Avons. I am running Avon Radials on my bike now. wil see about the Mileage. I am a firm believer in you get what you pay for in tires.

While you're looking at tires,be sure to look at Dunlop Elite-3. I'm running them on my '00 and I really like them.
I put a 160 on the rear. It's got about 6500 mi. on it,and it's down to about 30%. I put the steering tire on last spring & it still looks like new.

I see that the rear is not a recommended size for the bike.

If you are putting tires on the stock rim then you are correct, the 180 is too large for the stock rim. Stick with the stock 150 or you can go up one size to a 160.

I am on my third set of rear ME880 and second set of front ME880 have had no failures from previous tires.

I have found that the http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/default.aspx?SITEID=Google_motorcyclesuperstore&WT.mc_ID=10001&WT.srch=1&esvt=GOUSE337952724&esvadt=999999-0-3888019-1&esvid=333785&gclid=CI2BkfTihagCFRNl7AodJTVtqw has the best prices...other sites will either match or be off by a couple dollars.
