Engine sound, oil, gearbox 2 Years, 1 Month ago
|
|
|
Hi!
Just bought 2001 RoadStar 1600, run 11000 miles, immediately changed oil and put in LiquiMoly 10w-40 and then I started the engine but there comes little bit ticking sound. Is this oil very wrong in that engine? Outside temp is 9 degrees of heat now. Otherwise bike runs great, but sometimes first gear turns on a bit hard, today changed gearbox oil too and put in 80W90 GL-4.
Thanks!

I haven't heard this bike working so quietly, like mine, with stock exhaust, most have tuning exhaust system there and from there I can hear good sound. Maybe my new bike is just bit unfamiliar for me.

If that Moly enriched oil isnt rated for wet clutches in motorcycles and is also a pass car or truck oil (not motorcycle specific)i'd drian it out of the motor ASAP .
Then i'd install proper motorcycle oil before you run into clutch slipping issues due to the addiitonal moly lube it has over/above what std bike oil has thats rated for wet clutch use not to mention the friction mods your oil likely has in it too which are also not good for wet clutch apps.
Just my $.02.

2 different people... 2 different issues.
First, power13, I'm going to bet that you need to get that LiquiMoly out of your bike a.s.a.p. It almost certainly has molybendum-disulphide in it, just judging by the name. It is a friction modifier and a wet clutch killer in bikes... change your oil and go with a bike specific oil, like NOW.
Second, TINHK, yours reads like you need a clutch adjustment. At the handle, loosen the adjuster and turn it in until you have 1 nickels worth of gap/play at the crux of the handle. Adjust as necessary and then tighten up your adjuster. You should experience good 1 to 2 shifts afterward.
Both of you guys, get back and tell us what you've found after following the proper instructions you find here.
