knocking noise 2 Years, 1 Month ago
2001 roadstar I was out for a ride today and picked up a knocking noise. It sounds like its comeing from the transfer case cover, but it does it sitting still or rideing down the road. I tried to find the noise with a stethoscope but could not pin point it. Pulled the transfer case cover off and the fluid was clean and no metal in it.Engine oil is also clean. The trans and clutch both work great,no loss of power in the engine, and it seems to run strong and smooth as allways. Any ideas?

Take a listen to this and see if the sound matches any. The video was made by one of our members.

Nature of the beast. Might try playing with certain oils (whole 'nother issue here) . Mine sounds like a # 10 can 1/3 full of nuts and bolts. Just telling you it's happy.

The recall has been done. The noise started all of a sudden and changes with engine rpm. But its really loud and makes you think it cant be good.

Are you new to the Road *? They make alot of internal noise!!! Get louder pipes!! Mobile 1 MC oil also helps. Mine seems to be really noisy when it's good and hot from riding, usually in hot weather. I'm sure someone smarter than me about the situation will be on here soon!!

Im new to the roadstar,But no stranger to horsepower and chrome. My big concern is that it started doing it all of a sudden,Like someone flipped a switch and there it was.

Are you running premium fuel? If so regular is all you need. These bikes have a problem with carbon buildup on the valves causing SVS. Try a good dose of Sea Foam and search the Forum for more on SVS cure. I use Marvel Mystery Oil and sea Foam every other tank of fuel and have not had the SVS. You also need to run some Stabil for the ethanol. I hope someone has more info for you. That's all I have! Oh ya, they also puke alot!!! That's another issue!!

You might check to make sure you did not get an intake leak, but you mention the engine seems to be running ok so doubtful.

Other things just work loose, check your rear fender bolts, other items to make sure things are tight.
