Left turn noise 1 Year, 1 Month ago
I have a noise in the front end when turning left only. Its not a grinding or anything. Almost like a wind noise or a rubbing sound. Jacked it up yesterday and checked the front wheel. From what I can tell the wheel bearing seems ok. Could it be the brakes?? Any ideas? Its an 04

Lefty,
There are several articles on front end noise. A lot of people have the same issue. My bike has been doing it for over 20,000 miles. It is irritating. More noticeable with a windshield

Mine hasn't gotten any worse over the years, but it hasn't gotten and better either.

Just wanted to let you know you are not alone and this is a common issue.

Check the tread on your front tire. The left side of your tire will wear more than the right and will "cup". When you lean left, you will hear the odd sound.
An explanation was posted sometime back and it was simple physics (yes, there is such a thing). It goes something like this:
When vehicles in the US (because we drive on the right side of the road) make a right turn, the vehicle travels a shorter distance than in making left turns. The reason is that when turning left, you must cross the lane of traffic coming at you from your left. If you use a pencil to draw an intersection, then draw the arc of each type of turn, you will find that the arc for a left turn is longer. You therefore can deduce that the left side of the tire gets more time on the pavement than the right size, resulting in more tire wear. This does "assume" that we make an equal amount of right turns as left turns.
FACT: I had the strange noise turning left. I changed the front tire, no more sound. Now, with more wear on the rear, the sound is coming back and I'm already planning to replace the rear tire.

I'm with BSwift... mine began to do the same and did not stop until I replaced the front tire. I put Kenda Kruz on the front and back a year ago, and don't regret that decision for a moment.

It has 8,000 miles if that will help confirm the tire theory.

Rub your hand around the tread and see if the front tire is scalloped.
