More 12v power 4 Years, 9 Months ago
Hey guys,
I passed a goldwing on the highway last night ,and when I looked in the rearview i liked the visibility of all the lights he had, as well on the back...
I have a 01 , 1600 with running lights....
how much more draw can i add to my current system ,and if needed how can I add more juice? Thanks guys..

None .... you're already at the edge.

You need to upgrade the stator and rectifier. You can try moving up to the 1700 system or buying an after market stator.

Don't know about most 'juice'. I think the after market stator will give you more but you'd have to get some feedback from those that have gone those ways.

Low cost - go to the after market stator but there are some problems installing the it.

The Yamaha route is more expensive but it's a straightforward swap.

Either way you'll need to buy the 1700 rectifier.

Here's a link that covers the differences,

http://forums.delphiforums.com/1602/messages?msg=155285.64

So it sounds like you need to get an 05 and up. I always thought it was just a 1700.

Post edited by: Musky, at: 2007/08/12 15:05

Re:More 12v power 4 Years, 9 Months ago
once again musky..you are impeccably resourceful...
thanks a ton...

BTW Musk...I believe you had tried a double light set-up on the back of your bike for a rtb and turn....I have one I'm finishing that is awesome...bolts onto your
current bar ( at least my 01) and has both lights, no rtb needed...can use stock lenses and visors...

I used 3.125 diam half spheres, turned the od to match the 3.11 of my current holder, turned the inside with the groove, silver soldered the screw holders...THEN i put a 3/4 tube that i cut to shape to fit the od curve, putting the to about 1/8" apart.. drilled the holes so the wires can go thru..then cut a side hole for a pc of tubing to match up to my stock rear turn sig set-up...the best part is they are specific right and left since they are staggered slightly to match the angle of the rear fender..pics to follow....I am putiing some OMG halogen bulbs in there so i will be seen!

Stupid question. If you upgrade the rectifier to '05+ on a 2003 but leave the stator stock do you pick up the three additional Amps?

Thanks, loopd

Have you thought about adding LED lights? They draw a lot less current, you could add a bunch of LED lights for what one regular bulb would draw. They are more expensive but would cheaper than upgrading your generating system. And they are bright!!
