Major frame scraping on lowered Roadie 1 Year ago
I helped my neighbor lower his Roadstar about a year ago with the Barons lowering bars.He was unable to touch flat footed with stock height.
After lowering it,the bike bottomed out very easy. So we installed a 1000 or 1200lb spring (cant remember which). He has ridden about 4000 miles solo since the lowering.
He calls me today and asked if I will help him put the bike back to stock height, due to the ride with his wife today. He said the bike bottomed out every where and very hard at times. I looked uder the bike and the frame is scraped to bare metal on both sides of the bike.
He and his wife probably weigh about 320lbs together.
Is this normal fot he bottoming out with the heavy duty spring?

Any info would be appreciated
Bob

put him back to stock height and have him get a lower seat. I have the comfort cruise stiletto, and just ordered the comfort cruise solo. they really drop you down, and are still real comfy for me.

Ck the spring tension. It may have come loose. Or maybe he bent the mount on the front of the shock. I would just inspect it first. The only seat I could think of that will lower him is the corbin Dual touring that he would be able to ride him and his wife if put back to stock.

Respects
Mark

I lowered my bike by doing the flip & grind. I had never bottomed out so bad that the frame scraped. Did you guys adjust the pre-load on the shock too? Firming that up helps a bit. I've ridden 2 up w/ that set up & never hit the frame.

I lowered with flip and grind and after loosing about 200 pounds (i.e. Fat A$$ ex) I have never bottomed out. I did put in the progressive spring but have not road 2 up since I put it in.

Thanks everyone for the input....I will look it over before we remove the setup and see if I can find a problem ....when I suggested lowering thge bike to him ,I had read many posts on this site and everyones experience with lowering...I think something is wrong with his setup.
I will post what I find when we take it apart.
Thanks again

Maybe check that everything else is factory. If you lowered it with Baron links it might have already been flipped or something. Me and my girl weigh in at just under 400 and we have bottomed out, but not enough to scrape the frame like someone else mentioned. We had the stock spring as well - just the flip was done.

My 05 did the same thing when I put the Barons lowering kit on it not the dog bones. I have the 07 stock and the 05 has the Tricky air ride.
