valves ticking or tapping 1 Year ago
i was just wondering if anybody can hear their valves with 20 - 50 wt mobil one vtwin oil i recently had my valves adjusted and they did an oil change too but when i got the bike back the valves sounded the same and when it gets warm it's even louder and i was thinking with that wt oil shouldn't it be quieter when warmer? my valves at sometimes can over come my exhuast while idling and i got cobra slip-ons w?o baffles.

It's normal, they all tick, tak, click, rattle. Most here run 20-50 Mobil 1 Syn for V-Twins

Its normal for these bikes to make some valve noise. I dont hear mine to much cold but I can hear it when its warm. You get used to the sound after some time.

Shoot, if my valves weren't ticking, I'd think there was something wrong with it!!!

I guess I have never owned anything but air cooled scooters so most of the noises are just normal engine noise as far as I am concerned. It is musical accompaniment for the ride

Mine does it too, have almost 28k miles. Run Mobil 1 20w-50. I read somewhere that some of the ticking is actually from the valves seating on the head, not lifter/tappet noise. I may get in there sometime and check clearances but bike runs fine, so I'll put it off. It's not overly loud.

I've tried both mobil1 and AmsOil V-twin 20/50. The AmsOil seems to quiet things down better for mine. Not sure why that is, but it does
