Apes 2 Years ago
Got a chance to get pretty much free 20" apes. They are on a 1100 VStar. Guys said cables should all just swap out and can have them.

What cables if any would I need to buy to swab out the bars on my R* with the apes he has on the VStar. Said he would give me all the ones on the VStar. Will those work on the R*?

20' apes? You're gonna need an extension ladder! jk I know you mean 20" apes so a small step ladder should suffice! Nice score-can't wait for pics

Re:Apes 2 Years ago
Im thinking the cables will not work... you may get lucky with the throttle cables, but Im really thinking the clutch cable is a different critter between these two bikes... especially where it terminates at the engine side... and you will need +14 in length for your cables... also, what are the diameter of the bars? I dont think the controls are the same either, so you will need to add the same amount to your wires... dont forget to stagger your splices, solder all connections, and use quality shrink wrap... then you should be able to pull those wires through the bars with no issues... oh, if you do have to order throttle cables, only order the pull cable, the push cable is redundant on these bikes... the carb has a pretty good spring on the throttle lever already... I have been running without the push cable for years with no issues... hope this helps...

Re:Apes 2 Years ago
Those look like *CLASSIC* controls on that bike.

For them to just swap out... he would have had to have a *CUSTOM*

Throttle cables are *VERY* different.

*CLASSIC/Silverado* 1100 cables on the throttle side comes out of the bottom of the right hand control.

*CUSTOM* 1100 (and Roadstar) come out of the front of the right hand control.

They are very different cables.

Plus, I think the throttle cable ends for the carb are different in terms of hook up and length coming out seeing as the 1100 has a 2 carbs setup and the Roadie has a 1 carb setup.

Not to mention the Clutch Cables are completely different animals on the engine end.
