Dyna 3000 rpms 1 Year, 3 Months ago
Was doing a little reading at the Barons forum and came across a post where they (Barons themselves) said that when they set up a 1700 R* (Manifold,BAK,pipes,etc..) they set the Dyna 3000 to 5500 rpms. They also stated that they ran 1600's at 5000 rpms. I've got mine set at 5000, and was just curious....Why not 5500? Damage? No power up there? Both? Or is it safe, and is there power up there? Would they set it up there if they thought it was useless or potentially damaging? Just curious, BB.

B.B. I ask this question to a local guy who likes to build V-Twins and he said if you degree the cams and use heavy duty valve springs you can rev to 5500 RPM if not its a waste of time all the power is in the 4500 range give or take 100 RPM's, he also said you can rev to 5500 and nothing mite happen but on the wrong day BOOM it will let go.....

With just pipes and BAK, you're on the backside of the HP curve before you hit 5000 rpm so it's not worth it to raise the limiter to 5500. You should be shifting at about 4800 rpm anywasys to best use the HP.

I believe the valves also float around 5500 rpm so why would you want to be revving at that limit.

2 min between posts is considered 'slow'. You're going to have to tune those pinkies better than that.

Actually Doc, 1700 , I do shift right before the rev limiter kicks in (5000), bike just feels really good there. Thought I'd ask, I know some are using the 5500 setting that post here, but I really don't know what, if anything they have done to their motors. Thanks, BB.
