Wonder if we can just mix some sawdust with old oil like crooked car dealers used to do to quiet things down.

They have some pretty good deals and incentives going on right now. And some good looking bikes too. Hmmmmm, Wonder if my insurance would cover a blown up bike caused by sawdust.

Thanks very much to everyone for all the replies. Looks like I wasn't the only one who was wondering about it. I did try one last place and they had the Mobile 1 so now she's 100% mobile syn.

Thanks again to all!!

I stopped by my regular Yamaha shop on the way home and talked to the service manager there. He's new to this shop, but has been working with Yamaha's for quite a while. Anyway, he says that the GL5 has been used in the Roadies (both 1600 & 1700) with no ill effects. I think I'll stick with the AmsOil 80/90 and hope for the best

GL 4 is specified for the final drive in my Maxim X, and I suspect that Yamaha lists just this rating in order to justify the premium price on their brand named fluids. Many quality hypoid fluids are rated both GL 4 and GL 5, and I wouldn't anticipate any problems using them.

OK, so I'm the clown who's always three steps behind the rest of the parade.

Yep, I just replaced my transfer case oil with Mobil 1 75/90 synthetic last week...and it looks like that was a no-no (GL-5). It also looks like there's no strong recommendation for a GL-4 synthetic. Anyone want to suggest something?
