Passing Lamp Out 3 Years ago
Seems like the week for electrical problems.

This past week, I noticed my left passing lamp was out. I opened up the housing to take a look at the wiring but when I turned the ignition on the light was working. I put the housing back together thinking things were fine. The next morning, by the time I got to work, the light was out again.

Over the weekend, I slapped the housing and the light came back on. Later it was out again.

I am going to go over the wiring again but wiggling the wires didn't cause the light to go out. Could it be the lamp itseld is going bad?

Yes. I'd change out the bulb first before spending time trying to hunt down a short.

Re:Passing Lamp Out 3 Years ago
I had the same problem with mine a couple weeks ago, I first changed the bulb but had the same problem the next day. After further inspection I found the the positive wire connection at the bulb was the problem, the wires were broken inside the insulation right after the terminal crimp, splicing in a new terminal fixed it. I replaced all just to be sure, hope this helps.

Boy does this sound framilar. Almost same thing happend to me. You may not notice it but the light lens may be rotating as you ride. Wire inside light housing just twists till it breaks inside the insulation. Had this happen to both sides, took some foam insulation with sticky back and put it inside the lens collar foam won't melt and it is a little difficult to get back on but the lens won't twist and then there is light.......................
Hope this helps

Re:Passing Lamp Out 3 Years ago
Twisting bulbs. Broken wires. Yes, I have had them!

Last night, I opened the housing and took a closer look at the wiring. Turns out the wire coming from the bulb had almost broke loose. A little wiggle and the wire was history.

Fortunately, I had a spare bulb. A month ago, the same passing lamp had gone out. I picked up a bulb only to find out one of the wires at the switch on the housing had broken off. Fixed that and kept the bulb. Lucky decision. (I don't make smart decisions!)

Driving to Lowes to locate dilectric (sp?) grease, my tail light went out! Found one of the wires under the seat had worked loose. (I had added a harness earlier in the year to make my turn signals running lights. Apparently didn't crimp the wire in completely.) Fixed that last night. Life is good until the next traumatic event!
