Amsoil is in 4 Years, 9 Months ago
Well spent the big bucks 13.99 per quart on Amsoil. Lets see if it all it's cracked up to be. By the way while filling it started to overflow at 2 quarts. I had to crank engine to get it down. Then again after 3 quarts. Never had this happen before. Is it normal? By the way how far between oil changes now?

You should start it after 2 qts or so and rev it a couple times. Then add the other 2 qts. Or that's what I do anywho. You did drain both plugs? You'll get answers all over the place on how far before a change. I've always changed oil and filter between 3500 and 4 grand.

4000 miles? For Amsoil? For that kind of money I expect more than that. That is only 1000km more than the manual recommends for dino oil

That's just what I do. Others run 8000 or more. Some run 8 grand but change just the filter at 4. Give it time. Others will hop in.

Helmut I agree with Musky between 3000 and 4000 is what I do, but I use either Lukas 20w50 or RP 20w50 at about $7.00 a quart. Tell us how it runs with the Amsoil, and if it is worth the cost.

After 4 oil/filter changes this year I'm really interested in how the Amsoil works out for you.

Just read the Amsoil web site. It said use up to twice manufacture recommendation. Change filter at regular interval. The reason I tried it was the engine clatter noise was annoying me. Don't hear it with winshield off but on it is annoying.

I am using amsoil on my bike.
To tell you about that oil is worth it to use it and money . I pay $9.99 per qt.
Its run great with it , it shift very smooth, sounds is so qutie, runs cooler in summer, change oil every 8,000 miles, Just change oil filter every 4,000 miles But add less then 1 qt of oil when changing new oil filter.. Everything goes good! .
I have study to see which oil would suite the best . I pick amsoil over royal purple. everyone with my friends using amsoil on their bikes , and they theya re happy with it . I took a chances and I did. came out great!!

1st, I had the same problem with overflow on my first oil change. I did crank it over and rev it a couple of times to no avail. Then I cranked it up again and REALLY revved it -- sucked the oil right down. I was too gentle, it seems.

I switched to Mobil 1 full synthetic this last time. My plan is to run it about 5K miles. Only paid @7.99 a quart, though, and it made a huge difference in engine clatter. Buddy of mine runs his 8K miles, and has had no problems at all.

Also only added 4 qts total (tip from the forum).

I run AMSOIL also. Unbelievable difference in engine noise, definitely seems to run cooler. I used to race air cooled engines 30+ years back and in track testing we lowered our oil temps 40deg with AMSOIL over std dino. We used to send oil samples in for analysis back then too and ran some street engines for 10 to 12K with no oil breakdown. I became a firm believer in synthetics! I even run them in my lawnmower!

Currently I use Castrol Syntec in my cars and trucks, ALISYN in my racecar, AMSOIL in the Roadie. Lots of good synthetics out there now as I'm sure others will tell you.

Can't go wrong with AMSOIL though, 8K with a filter change at 4K should not be an issue at all.

2qts, start her up for a couple of revs and add the last 2qts....don't forget to put the oil cap back on for the first startup, can cause quite a mess....not me , saw a friend do it
