PASSING LIGHTS HOOKUP 6 Years, 5 Months ago
|
|
|
Hello again. I just received word from the dealer that the passing lights and mounting kit I had ordered has arrived. When I pick them up I hope that there will be clear and complete instructions. Should they be wired so that they can run with high beams or low beams or both? Is it a matter of state laws? I'm thinking if the relay is energized by a wire that is hot only when the key is on, the power to the lights can run directly from the battery with a fuse at that connection. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanx.

When I got mine from the dealer and put them on there was np relay that I can remember, the choice was hook it to the wire for the brights, or hook the wire to the low beams. There is also a switch on the left driving light to turn them on and off.

I have mine hooked up to the low beams then use the switch to control when they are on, that way you get that little bit extra light with the lows but can turn them off during the day.

My passing lights were wired by the dealer. They're hooked up to the low beam light in the back of the headlamp assembly. There's a switch on one of the passing lights that allows you to turn them off. When the switch is on, the passing lights are on on low beam. When you switch to high beam they go off. Hope this helps.

My R* Silverado passing lamps were wired to the running lights and the switch to turn them on/off was on the one lamp outside the windshield What a pain! Ordered Harley passing lamp rocker switch 77103-88 and with a little modification ie remove bracket /fasten housing halfs together with two 8x1/2 sm screws/sent wiring out the side instead of back/ and mounted on flat underside of left hand switch assembly below horn button with double sided 1" moulding tape and removed toggle switch in lamp.. wired remote in thru hole ..Beautie.... I can turn passing lamps on/off with a stretch of my thumb with hi OR low beam and less current draw ( two 8 watt running lights instead of 55/60 watt hdlmp bulb) on wiring 16g and no relay just 10 amp in line fuse.

The Double sided moulding tape automotive seems to be holding well. If not ...you may be able to attach to underside of housing with 6x3/4 sm screws thru holes in switch This pic shows screws holding together two halves of the plastic clamshell 8x1/2 sms

Post edited by: Pop Rivet, at: 2005/12/15 08:21
