I noticed your bike has some rather large saddlebags. Maybe the tail wagging is caused by turbulance. When I mounted silverado bags on my Roadie there was a disclaimer/warning included to keep it under 80 mph. I don't know if this is a real concern or a CYA on Yamaha's part. I know it is a long shot but you might try removing them for a quick test.

Hi 2sheds,
After reading through all the posts on this topic, I'd bet that it's the Brickstone tires you're running. I had the same problem on my 1100 when I bought it new with the same tires you have on it. As soon as I swapped out the tires for some Metzeler's, it was like riding a different bike. I'd say you need to wear those things out as soon as possible, and get a good set of rubber underneath you.

Well its been a while since I posted this so here is an update on the weave.

I did try removing the bags and also the windshield with no noticable effect (other than rendering the dealers explanation of the handling void). So I tried a variety of adjustments that have improved the situation somewhat but not totally eliminated it.

1. Checked and adjusted the alignment following the proceedure detailed in the clinic using two pieces of electrical conduit. This made quite a bit of difference god only knows what the dealer did to prep the bike....

2. Adjusted the preload on the rear shock, it was set to minimum so I adjusted it to mid point (I may be short but I make up for it in volume)

3. Lowered the pressure in the slipstones they were at 40 went down to 35. Remarkably this appeared to have an positive impact..go figure.

The weave is still there but only at certain speeds 50 - 70 and only on certain road conditions. So the answer is just drive the damn thing at 85 all the time (It does seem to like that speed, the motor just sounds right at 85)

I have also obtained the goofy tool to adjust the steering head so I plan to retorque that in the next few weeks.

If I want to replace the tires (probably for Metzler) I will be forced to ride more (what a horrible fate)

Thanks for all the advice guys, at least I am not going insane.

One more thing you could do is measure from the swing arm pivot to the axle on both sides to make sure it's the same on both sides.
