Hi
I have a 01 RoadStar that is leaking brake fluid at the sight glass on the master cylinder. Can I repair or replace this or do I have to repalce the whole unit is the question.

Interesting, I have never heard of this happening before, do you know if the sight window has been removed previously, has it been chromed? Is the window cracked or is the leak from behind it?

The window and o-ring behind it are not identified as seperate parts, you would have to buy a master cylinder to get them.

Maybe the best thing to do is remove the window if it looks okay and check the o-ring, you might be able to match up a replacement.

I looked in my repair manual and like jimtec said there was nothing about the site glass. It does sound like the o-ring is bad.

any suggestions as to how to remove this sight glass to replace to o ring? It looks like something that has to be done from the outside of the housing but yet I have not broken down the unit yet from the handle bars. Plan to do this over the weekend.

Use a socket just a bit smaller than the sight glass. Place it inside the MC against the glass. Put a screwdriver against the socket and pry outwards.

C clamp & two sockets, it will press out.
