My 2007 R* is sloooowww to show a full tank after fill-up. Judging from the other posts, this seems to be another quirky characteristic of the R*, along with the 'knocking' noise from the engine under certain conditions.

That is correct .... the gauge is very sloooooow to register full. If it does not register full after filling up then disconnecting the battery overnight sometimes does the trick.

When the engine gets real hot then you might hear some slight knocking. In general, the whole engine becomes a bit noisier. Of course in FL it might be all the time.

Most riders coming from water cooled engine bikes will find the noises the R* makes a bit 'disturbing' at first.

If the fuel light blinks 8 times then you have the fuel sender disconnected. It the green connector just in front of the seat under the tank.

I the connector is connected then you have a short somewhere or the sending unit is toast.

I don't think the white wire has anything to do with the fuel sender but why is it not connected.

You need to check the continuity of the fuel sender first then start hunting for a short. Probably check for continuity of the green and black wires from the sender and the dash.

Long story short.... They take thier time climbing up so thier not bouncing all over when your cornering, stop, start, etc..as somebody else said, but... when you fill and the needle drops to empty then after 15-20 miles it goes where it's supposed to... sending unit going bad 90% of the time. You'll notice it getting worse, pretty soon it will start radical movement as your driving then one day you'll notice it quits completely. Out of 5 roadies around here that I ride with, 3 of us have had to replace the sending unit, works great now.
