I have read that many of you suggest going to a 160/80/16 on the rear, who makes that tire and do yall have any suggestions on how to change the tire yourself, my motorcycle has been lowered 3" , would this effect the tire size, oh yeh I must not be as brave as many of you, I haven't scrubbed anything while turning. Will this fit the stock Yammy spoked wheel, how do you change without scratching the wheels

Yes it will fit a stock wheel, just ballooned a little. Avon makes one in the Venom line (about 185.00  )and Metzeler does in the ME880 line (about 195.00 double ) Just for starters. These are Retail prices from Dennis Kirk, I'm sure they're cheaper elsewhere (hope). I don't see how a 10mm wider tire should be a problem even lowered, but if it is, someone speak up. And finally, I have a shop do my tires (rim off bike), and I've never gotten a wheel scratched , chrome or cast. Tire changing yourself is NOT worth the headache when it only cost about 20-25 $ at a shop rim off. I've changed many dirt bike tires , and street bike tire are worse, trust me.Hope this helps.BB |

A 160 will fit no problem. Anything wider looks as narrow on the stock rim.
I've change a 180 and the stock front and as BB said it's a bitch without the right tools.  You can use some large clamps to break the bead.

all right thanks. So 160 is the widest I can go on the stock rim? How wide of a rim can I go without mods?

Depends what you mean by mods.
Even with the 5.5" rim and 180 tire you need to trim the brake stay a bit and grind on the fender support.
If you go to a 200 tire you need to do a lot of grinding and spreading.

what I mean by mods is no grinding or spreading. Just the widest wheel and tire combo without any changes to the bike.

I think i know were the break stay is but could ya give me an idea of what the fender support is..  Ah the joy of buying a pre owned vehichle..
