whining transmission 1 Year, 4 Months ago
I had the recall work done on my bike about 3 months ago. Since then, I have heard a whining sound from what sounds like the rear of the bike. It might be the trans. Has anyone experienced this after having the recall work done? Thanks

Just a shot but have you checked your belt tension and looked to see if it's rubbing against the side of the pulley?

No I haven't. Good point. I work out of town so I won't get to check until the weekend. I am not mechanical at all, sad to say. I hope I can figure this out. By the way, i don't hear it when I ride 2 up.

.... then the belt is too tight for sure. As you put weight on the suspension, the distance between the axle and the pivot shortens so the belt become looser. That's why if the belt is too loose you hear a squeak when you hit a bump.

Make sure you loosen it up soon as it's not good for the bearing.s

I really appreciate your insight. Question is, can I adjust the belt tension myself? I am not very mechanical when it comes to bikes.
Thanks again for all your help.

Yes.

It's best to raise the back wheel up. Loosen the axle nut, the bolt holding the brake stay (right side). Loosen both locking nuts on the axle adjusters. Turn both 1/8 turn out.

The tighten everything back up again. The axle bolt can be tightened very tight but don't put all you weight on the wrench.

Take for ride. If it still whirs then repeat above until the noise disappears.

Just to add a couple cents' worth. My belt was too tight from assembly. Sure enough, as soon as I adjusted it, some of the whining/whirring I was getting vanished.

Just as a point of clarity for any later model readers, the adjusters on the 05 Silverado oppose each other. To loosen the belt, I have to turn the adjuster on the left (pulley) side out and the adjuster on the right (brake) side in.

Good point on the adjusters Earl.

Mine face the same way so I turn them the same direction to tighten or loosen.
