Guys,
I switched to Mobil 1 V-Twin 20W-50 a while ago and so far I love it; I think it is about equal to Amsoil; much quieter engine, shifts nicer, won't ever dump Yamalube in again. - Rod.

Hello all. I am also new to the forum. I have another qestion about the Synthetic Oil. I am almost due for my first 600 mile oil change. One of the local dealers here told me absolutely not to switch to synthetic on the first change. He said the clutch isn't broken in yet. Wanted to see what the opinion of the forum was about this..

I'm brand new to the board, just found it yesterday. Found all kinds of helpful info on it already. Read several items about using synthetic oil to reduce heat and noise. I've been told by the Yamaha Service Mgr. I couldn't use it in my 03 Road Star because of the transmission and clutch. Would someone explain, please.

Dealers tell you that for one of two reasons:

1) They are clueless and don't know what they are talking about, or

2) They want you to spend your money at their dealership and not at any auto parts store or discount mart.

RUN, don't walk, from THAT one!

Provided that you use a lubricant that has no "friction modifiers" (i.e., doesn't say "energy conserving" on the API label) and is within the 20W-40 viscosity range of the OEM spec, then you'll be fine. Really.

If it doesnt say Energy Conserving it may have friction modifiers but if it is JASO MA certified ie wet clutch compliant then you know it doesnt..
